We were sorry to hear of the passing of Walter Block on March 19, 2017 at the age of 74. Loving father of Sarah Block, Windsor, Jessica Barlow, LaSalle. Beloved grandpa of Brandon and Emily. Also lovingly remembered by Kathie Block. Dear brother Bill Block, Harrow, Alfred Chaly, Windsor and the late Freida Janzen. Walt was a Millwright for 43 ½ years at Seagram’s and retired in 2004.

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Jim on March 16, 2017 at the age of 91. Jim has now been reunited with his beloved Liisa (2011). Dear son of the late James Elsworth and Susan “Suie” Schroll. Loving father of Liisa Ryan (Don), Sheila Lockhart (David) and Jim (Bonnie). Adored grandpa to Scott, Jennifer, Dana, Sarah, and Jarrod. Dear great-grandpa to Emma, Victoria, Khye, Maeve, Audrey and Adelaide. Jim was a proud retired firefighter for the City of Windsor for 30 years. At the time of his retirement in 1986, he was District Fire Chief for the City. Jim was also a founding member of the City of Windsor Senior Slo-Pitch Baseball League (WECSSO). He was a key organizer of the Windsor Firefighters’ Field Day Festival held for many years at Jackson Park and a longtime Royal Canadian Legion member. Jim will always be remembered as a hardworking, kind, generous man. He lived his life with integrity, honesty and commitment to service for others. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to all of the EMS workers for their professional assistance and support. It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of John at his home surrounded by his loving family on December 31, 2016 at the age of 71. John leaves behind his two sons John Jr. and Bob (Teresa) as well as his beautiful granddaughter Gabriella “Sweetpea”. Former husband and friend of Mary Ellen Stein (nee McMahon) and brother- in-law of John E. McMahon and family. Predeceased by his parents John and Rosalie Stein. Sadly missed by his cousins Mark, Wayne and Marty. He will be always remembered by his loving friends Maria and Tony Frangione, his best friends Paul and Sandy Carter, Fred and Elyse Maindonald, Judy Thibert and the many friends that he has met through the car business, sports and his path throughout life. John was the proud owner of John Stein Auto and had a passion in the auto industry for over 50 years. A deep heartfelt thank you to all the Doctors, Nurses and Support Staff who took such great care of our father and assisted us through this difficult time. 91 years. Passed away peacefully at WRH Metropolitan Campus on Thursday, December 29, 2016. Beloved husband of the late Jeanne Waffle (2013). Dear father of Cathy Missel and husband Dave, Linda Gates and husband Jim, Connie Dennis and husband Rick, Margaret Allen and husband Ron and Allen Waffle. Loving grandfather of 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Gordon retired from the Bendix Corporation and was a former caretaker at Lincoln Road United Church. STOCKWELL, Donald
Passed away peacefully surrounded by family on December 8, 2016 in his 85th year. Beloved husband of Olga for 57 years. Loving father of Shari Baron and Jim Spiers, Laurie and Rob Fisher and Chris and Tina Stockwell. Proud and loving grandfather of Katie, Trevor, Laura, Ryan, Alicia, Brandon, Chase and Emma. Survived by his dear sister Irene. Predeceased by his siblings Gord, Mary and Glenn. Dear brother-in-law of Jennie. He will also be missed by many nieces, nephews and friends. Don worked at Bell Canada for 38 years and was the recipient of a Bell Innovation Award. He played slow-pitch and volleyball with WECSSO as recently as this past summer. GUNNELL, Gordon Andrew “Gord”
Passed away peacefully in the comfort of his original home in Tecumseh on December 13, 2016 at 88 years of age. Loving husband of Patricia with whom he shared 61 years of marriage. Much loved father of Linda (Mark) Buller, Diana (Abe) Reidpath and Greg (Michelle) Gunnell. Treasured grandpa of Andy, Jim, Angela, Olivia and Vanessa. Great- grandpa of 5 great-grandchildren. Predeceased by his brother George (Melita) Gunnell. Gord spent 43 great years at Chrysler Canada starting in the mailroom and ending of his career as Manager of Canadian Auto shows and Exhibits. Throughout his life Gord was involved with AKO football, Central United Church basketball, Western Ontario Baseball Scorers Association, Windsor and District Basketball Referee Association, Senior Slo-Pitch Baseball, a board member of WECSSO, a volunteer with United Way, and a board member at St. Marks by The Lake Church. He was also a lifetime member at Vic Tanny’s Health Club. A big thank you to the caregivers from Amy’s Helping Hands for their dedicated care given to our Dad throughout the past few years and especially for the kindness shown over these last two months. In memory of Gord, memorial donation may be made to St. Mark’s by The Lake Church.
HICKS, Raymond “Ray”
It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to Ray at the age of 68. He passed peacefully with his immediate family by his side on November 20, 2016 after dictating his terms for the armistice in his battle with cancer. Predeceased by his parents, Albert & Marion (nee Smith) & many aunts, uncles & cousins. He will be sorely missed by his surviving family. Cherished husband of over 33 years to Carla Johnson-Hicks. Beloved father of Jessica, Darryl and wife Melissa. Proud Grandpa of Graham & Angela. Dear nephew of Dorothy (Standish) Hicks. He will be missed by many other family members & friends. Ray was a proud member of WECSSO Slo-Pitch where he played, coached,umpired and was the resident handyman. He enjoyed golfing, building model trains, wood working, & spending time in his garden & yard.
